Planned CVS distribution facility in Northland takes a key step forward
Kansas City’s rise in the logistics and distribution business continues with a planned $110 million distribution center for CVS Pharmacy receiving an early approval by the Kansas City Plan Commission.
The commission voted unanimously Tuesday to approve plans for a 752,000-square-foot distribution facility in the Northland’s Skyport Industrial Park. The building can expand to more than 1 million square feet.
An affiliate of NorthPoint Development owns the property at the southwest corner of Northwest 108th Street and North Congress Avenue and is expected to sell it to CVS, which will then develop the building.
Anywhere from 362 to 400 employees will work at the facility on three shifts.
Port KC approved incentives for the building. CVS will receive a 22-year property tax exemption on the land and the building and a 10-year exemption on equipment for the distribution facility.
The first 12 years will allow a 90 percent exemption on property taxes, with a 50 percent exemption for the following 10 years.
Several municipalities in the region were vying for the CVS distribution facility, but Kansas City appeared to have won the project on the strength of the Port KC incentives.
