Coming to Overland Park: Four new restaurants and one new boutique
Overland Park is getting four new restaurants, including three new to this area:
▪ Omaha-based Eat Fit Go plans to open four area restaurants by the end of the year, including one in Hawthorne Plaza. The 1,400-square-foot store, at 4945 W. 119th St., is scheduled to open in early fall.
Eat Fit Go offers food that is made fresh daily, never frozen — high-protein and low-sodium items free of preservatives. About 95 percent of the menu is gluten-free. It includes Crazy Cow Snack Tacos with tenderloin and pico de gallo; the Basic Meal Salmon with spiced salmon and broccoli on converted rice; fajita steak bowls; and citrus tilapia for lunch and dinner.
It also has an all-day breakfast menu that includes steak and eggs, burritos with chicken apple sausage and egg whites, and breakfast tacos with lean ground turkey.
The food will be cooked in a new corporate-owned kitchen in the Kansas City area and distributed to the stores.
Eat Fit Go has three stores in Omaha, and one in Lincoln. Along with the four area stores, it plans to open 11 more by the end of the year in Arizona, Iowa, and Nebraska, both corporate and franchise-owned stores.
▪ More than a year ago, Crushed Red Urban Bake & Chop Shop said it was targeting the market for expansion in 2015. It’s a bit behind schedule, but now area franchisee, ALW LLC, plans a fourth-quarter opening for the first area Crushed Red, at 10640 Roe Ave. in Overland Park. The franchisee also wants to open more area locations, including another in Overland Park.
The fast casual St. Louis-based franchise serves chopped-to-order salads and whole-grain pizzas. It was founded in 2012 and began franchising in 2014. It currently has three corporate-owned stores in the St. Louis area as well as two locations owned by a franchisee in Colorado.
Another franchisee is opening a location at 2540 Broadway Bluffs Drive in Columbia in September.
Menu items include build-your-own salads with ingredients like broccoli, roasted corn, black beans, seasonal fruit, pesto roasted shrimp and sirloin steak with a choice of organic dressings.
Specialty pizzas include the Yukon Gold Steakhouse with Parmesan cream, sirloin steak, Yukon potatoes and Gorgonzola cheese, and the Chipotle BBQ Chicken with black beans, roasted corn, caramelized onion and pepper jack cheese.
▪ Maggiano’s Little Italy also is going through planning for a new 8,497-square-foot restaurant in Corbin Park, 7025 W. 135th St., Overland Park.
A company spokeswoman would not confirm the location but issued this statement: “We are always researching areas that would be a good fit for the brand and where there are Maggiano’s fans. There’s nothing confirmed at this time, but we will be sure to let our Kansas City fans know if we head that way.”
Menu items include four-cheese ravioli, baked ziti, baked eggplant Parmesan, chicken Marsala, balsamic-glazed salmon, and shrimp scampi, as well as lighter versions of its pasta dishes.
▪ Area franchisee Verona Key plans to open a Dunkin’ Donuts in La Paloma shopping center, 6705 W. 119th St., Overland Park, in early 2017. It will be the franchisee’s eighth area location.
Terra Mexican Cuisine previously operated in the spot for a short stint.
New boutique
After opening six locations in Kansas, Bling boutique is coming to the metro.
It plans to open a 1,000-square-foot store in Hawthorne Plaza, at 4949 W. 119th St., by Monday.
Mark and Nicole Campos opened the first location in Nicole’s hometown of Scott City, Kan., in 2008, and later opened shops in Mark’s hometown of Garden City, as well as in Hays, Manhattan, Salina, and Wichita, as customers asked for one in their towns. The couple also take feedback from customers in each market to tailor their inventory.
