JoyceKC notebook: Apple Store for Plaza 211? 810 Zone closes in Lee’s Summit
Could Apple Store be one of the tenants coming to the new Plaza 211?
The former Halls store on the Country Club Plaza has been under renovation for more than a year. It was originally set to reopen in fall 2015 with a slew of tenants.
While work continues on the building at 211 Nichols Road, Apple Store has now applied for a work permit at the site.
An Apple spokeswoman said the company has not made an announcement for that site.
In a statement, Meredith Keeler, the new general manager of the Plaza, said: “The Country Club Plaza is committed to offering a diverse mix of contemporary retailers for shoppers. As details become available on new tenants, we will share the information with the community.”
In mid-2014, Highwoods Properties, the Plaza’s former owners, said Plaza 211 would have six to eight retailers — mostly upscale, exclusive tenants to the Plaza — as well as one or two restaurants.
Area real estate sources said both Apple and Nike have been in negotiations for a spot in Plaza 211.
An Apple Store has operated at 4712 Broadway on the Plaza since September 2004.
Halls Plaza closed in August 2014 to consolidate with its Crown Center store.
810 Zone updates
When the 810 Zone in SummitWoods Crossing at 1672 N.W. Chipman Road closed in January, it was supposed to be temporary. The owners expected to reopen before March Madness with a new look, new menu featuring barbecue and other changes — all under a new partnership.
But the deal fell through and 810 Zone will not reopen in the space.
A different owner plans to open an expanded 810 Zone with new menu in Overland Park’s Corbin Park this spring. That 810 Zone is considered a relocation of the store that had operated in Leawood’s Town Center Plaza. The new owner couldn’t be reached for comment Thursday.
