Kansas City’s Manifesto is one of the nation’s ‘essential’ cocktail bars

Manifesto, at 1924 Main St., was cited for its “solid cocktail program” and “intimate speakeasy atmosphere.”

Kansas City’s Manifesto cocktail bar has made another national listing.

“It’s five years old and still going strong, thanks to owner Ryan Maybee’s solid cocktail program (with seasoned updates) and intimate speakeasy atmosphere. This Kansas City treasure is just downstairs from its sister establishment, The Rieger Hotel Grill & Exchange,” Eater said.

Eater — a national network of blogs covering restaurants, bars and nightlife — consulted with bloggers, book authors and industry professionals to put together a “grand list” of 150 venues and then it cut the list to 38 of the “best of the best.”

It’s new “The 38 Essential Cocktail Bars Across America” rated the bars on the quality of their cocktails, but atmosphere and the context of certain bars in the industry also played a part. It also made sure to be diverse geographically as well as by style.

The inaugural “essential 38” list appeared in November 2012. Manifesto also made that listing, but Eater said the current version was curated from scratch.
