Leawood’s new Let’s Crêpe is not in a prominent spot.

It took a little space on a street between the south and north sides of Town Center Plaza at 4872 W. 119th St. — a former tailor and shoe repair shop.

But the whiff of something tasty in the air has drawn many customers down the way.

Let’s Crêpe, which opened Oct. 20, specializes in crêpes and flatbreads.

Savory crepes and flatbreads include Just Cheese (a combination of cheddar, mozzarella and provolone), Currylicious (red curry with chicken, cheese, fried onions and lettuce), Midwest BBQ (sweet and tangy barbecue sauce with chicken, cheese and lettuce) and Thai Peanut (peanut sauce, chicken, cheese, fried onions and lettuce). Sweet crêpes include Classic Nutella, Peanut Butter & Banana and Berries Galore.

It is the first location for the Topeka-based company but it plans to add more locations in the metro.

“We wanted to offer a different kind of food than is being offered there now,” said Linda Aziz, a partner in the new restaurant with Lonnie Williams and Rehan Reza.

Aziz said recipes for crispy crêpes and flatbread come from Hot & Roll, which also is an investor. Hot & Roll was launched in mall kiosk in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, in 2003. In late 2007, Hot & Roll began franchising and now has multiple locations in Malaysia and Asia.

Shawnee chef on Bravo’s Top Chef

Renee Kelly of Renee Kelly’s Harvest in Shawnee will be one of only 17 chefs — and the only one in the Midwest — to compete on the new season of “Top Chef.”

The 13th season of Bravo’s culinary competition kicks off with a two-night premiere at 9 p.m. Dec. 2 and Dec. 3.

The contestants went on a six-city journey along the coast of California to prove they have what it takes to out-cook the competition. But Bravo doesn’t let the contestants talk about how far they went in the competition.

Renee Kelly’s Harvest is at 12401 Johnson Drive.
