Dodge City Distillery closes in Olathe

Olathe’s Dodge City Distillery has shut down.

WXYZ Restaurant Group opened the distillery-restaurant in mid-2011 in Olathe Pointe, 11935 S. Blackbob Road. It was known for its hand-crafted cocktails and wood-fired steaks.

Joe Effertz Jr. was an original partner, but he said he sold his interest in the operation 18-months ago. The other owners couldn’t be reached for comment.

A sign on the door says: “We would like to thank Olathe and Kansas City for making us feel welcome. We regret to inform everyone that we will be moving back to Dodge City. We apologize for any inconveniences and again want to thank everyone.”

On the Border Mexican Grill & Cantina had originally operated in the spot. But Dodge City Distillery remodeled it to make it to give it the distinct Dodge City look.
