Plaza 211, the redeveloped Halls Plaza building, has another new tenant.

Marine Layer has opened its first area store at 225 Nichols Road.

The San Francisco-based retailer said it sells “absurdly soft” casual and comfortable T-shirts and other apparel.

Marine Layer was founded in 2009 by Mike Natenshon. His then girlfriend, now wife Kelly, threw out his favorite T-shirt (though he admits it was long overdue). So he tried to make the perfect soft T-shirt to replace it, even quitting his job to start Marine Layer and later convincing his friend, Adam Lynch, to partner in the new business.

Marine Layer now makes apparel using its signature fabric — a 50/50 blend of Supima cotton (sourced in California) and MicroModal (recycled beechwood), made in California. Most of the manufacturing also is done in the U.S. but the company uses some overseas vendors that employ the same “ethical practices we use here to ensure quality,” it said. It also has a one-year return policy.

Along with the tees, items now include loungewear, swimwear, boxers, sweaters and tops, hats, totes, sunglasses and beach blankets.

Apple also relocated to Plaza 211 and Nike has confirmed its plans to open a store in the redeveloped Halls Plaza building this summer.
