Who has the best burnt ends sandwich in Kansas City is always a hotly contested point.

Twenty barbecue joints in Kansas and Missouri are vying for 10 spots in USA Today’s 10 Best Burnt End Sandwich, a Readers Choice travel award contest.

Kansas City, of course, is known for its burnt ends, the point of the brisket that has been cooked to charred perfection.

Kansas City burnt end honorees include: Arthur Bryant’s, B.B.’s Lawnside BBQ, The BBQ Shack, Big T’s Bar B Q, Brobeck’s Barbeque, Char Bar, Danny Edward’s Boulevard Barbecue, Gates & Sons, Jack Stack Barbecue, Joe’s Kansas City Bar-B-Que, Johnny’s BBQ, LC’s Barbeque, Plow Boys Restaurant, Q39, RJ’s Bob-Be-Que Shack, Rye, Snead’s BBQ, S.L.A.P.’s BBQ and Woodyard Bar-B-Que.

The only restaurant listed not in the Kansas City area is Bogart’s Smokehouse in St. Louis.

Local experts who helped cull the list include Chow Town blogger Ardie A. Davis, Pellet Envy’s Rod Gray and Shanley Cox, a local lifestyle blogger.

Fans can vote once a day for their favorites until June 6. Winners will be announced June 10.
