Sweet news, soda geeks: A new store in downtown Lawrence stocks more than 1,000 varieties of fizzy drinks, including hard-to-find bottles of Nehi peach soda from North Carolina and Green River lime soda from Chicago.

Mass Street Soda opened last month at 1103 Massachusetts St. I popped in on Monday to interview co-owner Matt Baysinger, a cream soda fanatic who partnered with his friend Luke Thompson on the business.

Baysinger told me about some of Mass Street Soda’s best brews (like Henry Weinhard’s gourmet root beer) and a few of the shop’s crazier flavors (Buffalo Wing Soda, anyone?). He also showed off a soda for Harry Potter fans called Flying Cauldron butterscotch beer and his all-time favorite cream soda, Manhattan Special Vanilla Cream Soda, which bursts with the warm flavor of real vanilla beans.

Mass Street Soda sells bottles for $2 each and chills them in two minutes flat with a nifty spin method.
