What’s new in beer in North Kansas City, Lawrence & Kelly’s Westport Inn
Planning to crack a cold one this Labor Day weekend? Here are a few new local brews to choose from.
Colony Handcrafted Ales, 312 Armour Road in North Kansas City, will toast its grand opening at 1 p.m. Saturday. The brewery and kitchen is connected to Colony, a coffee shop and bar that opened in March 2016. The kickoff party features giveaways, food, live music and of course, beer.
Lawrence Beer Co., 826 Pennsylvania St. in Lawrence, won’t officially open until mid-September, but the brewery’s beers are already on tap at The Burger Stand at the Casbah, 803 Massachusetts St., and Lucia Beer Garden + Grill, 1016 Massachusetts St.
The 15-barrel brewery is located in a renovated brick building in the Warehouse Arts District, a rapidly evolving area in East Lawrence that’s also home to a bistro called Bon Bon, Decade coffee shop and the Cider Gallery art and event space.
Locals got a taste of Lawrence Beer Co. last week at a block party featuring music from The Mighty Mighty Bosstones.
If you’re in Westport Thursday, head to Kelly’s Westport Inn at 7 p.m. for a sip (or three) of County Clare Irish Red, a beer brewed in collaboration with Stockyards Brewing Co. Proceeds will benefit HALO, a nonprofit that serves Kansas City’s homeless youth.
County Clare Irish Red should be on tap at Kelly’s through the bar’s 70th anniversary in October.
