Worlds of Fun’s SteelHawk now open

ASSOCIATED PRESS

After a longer-than-expected delay, Worlds of Fun’s newest attraction has officially opened to the public, a park employee confirmed Thursday.

The SteelHawk, which spins riders around a 301-foot tower, was originally supposed to debut May 24. That month, however, a park spokesperson said the the ride would be delayed “a few days,” citing weather issues as the reason for the delay.

The ride was previously in use at Knotts Berry Farm near Los Angeles, where it was known as The Windseeker. But twice in 2012, the attraction left riders stranded in mid-air. It was eventually moved to Missouri, where state regulations are less stringent.

Verrückt, the record-setting waterslide at Kansas City, Kan., water park Schlitterbahn, remains closed while park officials make final adjustments. The park has not announced a date for the attraction’s opening.
