Changes coming to North Kansas City’s Armour Road

The city of North Kansas City Department of Community Development is looking to improve safety and the appearance of Armour Road from Ozark to Burlington Streets. The three-quarter mile stretch of road has been divided into three zones.

The Downtown Zone runs from Burlington Street to Fayette Street and the current proposal calls for conversion of existing parking stalls into on-street parallel parking with a bike lane located between the parallel parked cars and the sidewalk. Expanded sidewalk parklets are also part of the proposal for this zone.

The Transition Zone plan, which stretches from Fayette Street to Knox Street, calls for the two outside lanes to be converted into on-street parallel parking with bike lane located between the parked cars and sidewalk on both sides of the road.

The Commercial Zone from Knox Street to Ozark Street suggests bike lanes be located on both sides of the road and would feature a buffer to separate bicyclists from traffic.

The plan has yet to be presented to North Kansas City Council.
