Amaya Rodriguez and Humberto Rivera Blanco are native Cuban ballet dancers who emigrated to the United States last year to pursue greater opportunities in dance for themselves with the Kansas City Ballet and better lives for their families.
For many of the students at the Paseo Academy of Fine and Performing Arts, getting lessons from a professional dancer, especially one who just a few months ago was dancing with the famed African-American Alvin Ailey company, can be life changing, said a spokeswoman with the Friends of Alvin Ailey.

Rehearsals are already underway at the Todd Bollender Center for Dance & Creativity for the Kansas City Ballet's all new production of The Nutcracker. This season's production, featuring all new costumes and sets, has been choreographed by Devon Carney, the artist director of the Kansas City Ballet. The new $2 million production will open December 5, 2015 at the Muriel Kauffman Theatre at the Kauffman Center for Performing Arts.
