Grab the lawn chairs, the blankets and the family: Several Kansas City area venues will be showing movies outdoors, starting this weekend.

▪ Hyde Park: The park at 36th Street and Gillham Road will show free movies at 8:30 p.m. every Friday this month, with concerts by youth bands at 7:30, plus prizes and refreshments. The movies: “Big Hero 6,” June 5; “Annie,” June 12; “The Boxtrolls,” June 19; “Hook,” June 26. kcparks.org

▪ Mulberry Lake: Briarcliff Trails of Our Community presents a free series starting around 8:45 most Saturday nights across from Briarcliff Village.
