Cake (doughnuts) by the ocean? Joe Jonas and DNCE make stop in Westport to give treats to fans
It might not have been cake by the ocean, but doughnuts (and a chance at a selfie) were good enough for the hundreds of fans that lined up to see DNCE in Westport Friday afternoon.
The band members, including ex-Jonas-Brother Joe Jonas, handed out free doughnuts at Doughnut Lounge ahead of their performance Friday opening for Selena Gomez at the Sprint Center. DNCE — which also includes Jack Lawless, Cole Whittle and JinJoo Lee — is perhaps most famous for its chart-topping singles “Cake by the Ocean” and “Toothbrush.”

It was an afternoon of screaming, crying and elated joy for many fans. The line of mostly young women stretched from the door of the Doughnut Lounge down Archibald Avenue and around the corner of Broadway.

After waiting in line, fans were quickly ushered through the doughnut shop, where the band members handed out free doughnuts. Many of the fans quickly took selfies as they received their doughnuts.

Mary Murphy and her friends, who had been in line since 1 p.m., all called themselves DNCE and Jonas Brothers fans “for like my whole life.” While they aren’t attending the concert at the Sprint Center, they couldn’t pass up the opportunity to see Jonas in person.
“My inner 16-year-old is freaking out,” Murphy said.

The band members, originally scheduled to serve doughnuts for only 10 minutes, stayed 30 minutes to serve the whole line — young women who were obviously more interested in the band member than the doughnuts themselves.
One woman decided to be opportunistic by bringing a sign but, sadly, Joe Jonas did not ask her out.
