Light snow falls in KC, causing delays in morning commute and several crashes

A light snow started falling in the Kansas City area during Monday morning’s commute, causing crashes as roads became wet and slick in spots.

Although the heavier snowfall was expected to be east of the Kansas City area, the light snow started accumulating on roadways in the Kansas City area, according to the National Weather Service in Pleasant Hill.

The snow turned roads very slick and several crashes were being reported across the Kansas City area. The National Weather Service was urging people to take it slow on their way into work.

Some of the trouble areas included:

A multi-vehicle crash along northbound Interstate 35 near Gardner road.

A crash along southbound I-35 near 18th Street Expressway.

A multi-vehicle crash along southbound I-35 near Old 56 Highway.

A crash along southbound I-35 near 95th Street.

A crash along southbound I-35 near Mission Road.

A crash along southbound Interstate 635 to eastbound Interstate 70.

A multi-vehicle crash along eastbound Interstate 670 at Seventh Street Trafficway.

The Kansas City metro area was expected to see a few tenths of an inch of snow. Up to 2 inches of snow were expected central Missouri.

The snow was expected to tamper off later in the day, but Monday will feel wintry with breezy northerly winds and temperatures remaining around freezing.

Cold conditions were expected to continue into Tuesday with temperatures in the upper 20s to lower 30s.
