Supervisor of national American Indian tennis tournament reaches final before losing
Yawna Allen reached the finals of the North American Indian Tennis Association National Championships, and that probably ranked as her second greatest accomplishment of the three-day event.
Allen also ran the weekend event at the Plaza Tennis Center as the association president.
“I’ve played in this tournament for about 18 years,” Allen said. “This is where I got my start. It’s why I wanted to come back to help develop it.”
Allen, who played on the Plaza courts while competing for Oklahoma State eight years ago, fell in the women’s open final to Lexie Maytubby, who just completed her junior season at Texas-Permian Basis, 6-2, 6-4.
In the men’s open final, Austin Williams, 18, of Wichita, defeated Echaswv Stanley of Borger, Texas, 6-0, 6-0.
