Watch Raul A. Mondesi’s blazing speed and how it helped Royals win
Raul A. Mondesi made his Royals debut on Tuesday, but he made his first impression on fans on Wednesday.
And, wow, is he fast, right?
The Royals beat the Angels 7-5. Two runs scored on a Mondesi bunt in the seventh inning when the Angels pitcher Matt Shoemaker threw the ball away. Here is the video of that play and the ensuing debate between Mike Scioscia and the umpires. It was so long that it rivaled a Lincoln-Douglas debate.
An inning later, Mondesi squibbed a ball out front of the plate and Jose Alvarez threw it away, allowing two more runs to score. You can watch a clip of that play here.
Daren Wilman, Director of Baseball Research & Development for MLB.com, said Mondesi reached a top speed of 21.4 mph on his first hit. On the second, he was even faster: 21.7 mph.
Mondesi certainly made an impression with his wheels.
Mondesi is just proving "That's what speed do"
