Here’s how Mr. Belding ended up wearing a Royals World Series ring
As a scout for the Royals, Alec Zumwalt spends a lot of time traveling.
So when he’s in an airport and spies a man wearing a Brooklyn Cyclones, Zumwalt will strike up a conversation.
That’s what happened Sunday night as Zumwalt was preparing to fly from Chicago to Minnesapolis and then on to Los Angeles. The guy with the Cyclones* hat? Actor Dennis Haskins aka Mr. Belding from “Saved By The Bell.”
*The Brooklyn Cyclones are a Mets short-season A team in the New York-Penn League.
“I asked him about his hat not recognizing who he was,” Zumwalt wrote in a Twitter message. “We laughed and joked for a bit at the gate and before take off. He asked if he could put my ring on and take a pic. I am not a selfie guy so I had no problem. He is a big baseball fan and does appearances at minor league stadiums. … He asked a lot of questions about what I do for the team and is a funny guy.”
Can you say #WorldChampionsRing ? Thx @ZumiZumiZum for letting the wear this! @Royals #2015 #WorldSeriesChamps pic.twitter.com/ZFdxMndLeT

Haskins was in Chicago for the opening of Saved by the Max diner, Zumwalt wrote.
“You don’t see minor league hats often and usually if you do, there’s a player or coach connection,” Zumwalt wrote. “That’s why I originally said anything to him. Then I realized, it’s Mr. Belding!!”
