Royals manager Ned Yost has often talked of the difficulty of winning Major League Baseball games.

Sometimes, it can be a game of inches.

To wit: In the Royals’ 1-0 loss at Seattle on Friday, Eric Hosmer was on second base with two outs in the ninth inning. Salvador Perez laced a ball down the third-base line for what seemed to be a game-tying double.

However, third-base umpire Clint Fagan called the ball foul.

Shaun Newkirk tweeted this look at the play:

Perez later flied out to deep center to end the game. The Royals thought the ball down the line was fair as you can read in Rustin Dodd’s game story.
