Royals’ Drew Butera squashes rumor: He is not cousins with Ariana Grande

The television show “MythBusters” finished its run earlier this month, so maybe I can take a crack at answering some far-out theories.

For example, the blog Twinkie Town found circumstantial evidence that Royals catcher Drew Butera and pop singer Ariana Grande may be cousins.

Her full name is Ariana Grande-Butera. Her father’s name is Edward and he was born on the East Coast, not far from where Drew’s father was born. Also, Butera’s middle name is Edward.

It seems pretty unlikely they are related, but inquiring minds want to know. So I asked Butera about a possibly family connection on Tuesday.

“Is that you who keeps tweeting me?” Butera asked.

No, I haven’t. That likely is a Twins fan (Butera played for Minnesota from 2010 to 2013).

Butera said he is definitely not first cousins with Ariana.

“No,” Butera said, “but I’d like to meet her.”

There it is. Case closed. You Twins fans can stop tweeting at Butera.
