KC will be host to 100 postseason college basketball games in 20 days
March Madness officially begins Thursday in Kansas City, and this will be the epicenter of hoops.
There will be five college basketball tournaments in the area, starting with the MIAA men’s and women’s conference tournaments that will begin play in Kansas City on Thursday.
All told, 106 teams will be playing 100 games in a 20-day span, and here is the breakdown.
MIAA tournaments
Number of teams: 16 (eight men, eight women)
Number of games: 14
Where: Municipal Auditorium
Dates: Thursday to Sunday
Tickets: Call 800-745-3000, go to Ticketmaster.com. There is a “KC Tournament” pass for $65. Single-session tickets are $20, and $5 student/youth tickets will be available only at the Municipal box office.

Big 12 men’s tournament
Number of teams: 10
Number of games: 9
Where: The Sprint Center
Dates: March 9-12
Tickets: Call 888-929-7849 or go to SprintCenter.com. Tickets are scarce at best. An online message said “There are currently no seats available, but it is not officially sold out and it is possible tickets will be available later.”

NJCAA DII women’s championship
Number of teams: 16
Number of games: 15
Where: Johnson County Community College in Overland Park
Dates: March 15-19
Tickets: $10 per day and $5 for kids ages 7 to 12. Children 6 and under will be admitted for free.

NAIA Division I men’s championship
Number of teams: 32
Number of games: 31
Where: Municipal Auditorium
Dates: March 16-22
Tickets: All-tournament passes are $75 or $100, and single-session tickets are $5 for students and $15 for adults. Call 816-595-8142, go to TicketMaster.com or you can buy tickets at the Municipal Auditorium box office. The code “NAIA Downtown” can be used to receive $5 off adult tickets and $3 off student tickets.

Where: Silverstein Eye Centers Arena in Independence
Dates: March 16-22
Tickets: All-tournament passes are $78.50, and single-session tickets are $6 for kids (ages 5 to 10), $9 for students (ages 11 to 21) and $12 for adults.

Big 12 Fan Experience
The Big 12 will have a “GameDay Fan Experience” outside the Sprint Center. That will be March 9 (3 to 7 p.m.), March 10 (2 to 7 p.m.), March 11 (2 to 7 p.m.) and March 12 (10 a.m. to 5 p.m.).
