For Pete's Sake

Missouri Mavericks will wear ‘Slap Shot’ jerseys when Hanson Brothers are in town

In the annals of great sports movies, one that is often overlooked.

“Slapshot.”

The Paul Newman classic from 1977 is about a hockey team (the Charlestown Chiefs) that reverses its fortunes through on-ice violence.

The Chiefs’ biggest instigators are the three Hanson Brothers.

Well, guess who’s coming to town?

The Missouri Mavericks are bringing the fictional brothers to Independence for the team’s game on Jan. 17 against Rapid City Rush.

Jeff Carlson, Steve Carlson and David Hanson are the guys in the horn-rimmed glasses who portray the Hanson Brothers.

The Mavericks will give fans a chance to meet the Hanson Brothers, who also starred in “Slap Shot 2” and Slap Shot 3,” at Strikerz Entertainment Center in Independence at 4 p.m. that day. For more details on that, click here.

Missouri also will be wearing Chiefs jerseys that night, and they will be auctioned off after the game. They are pretty sweet:
