After big hit, Patriots’ Danny Amendola draws penalty and ire of fans
Things got chippy in the second quarter of the Chiefs’ AFC Divisional playoff game against the Patriots.
A punt by the Chiefs was downed near the goal line, but Jamell Fleming didn’t get to the ball, because he was wiped out on a hit by the Patriots’ Danny Amendola.

— Rachel G. Bowers (@RachelGBowers) January 16, 2016Chiefs fans and, really, football fans elsewhere were baffled, angry and unhappy about the play. The penalty moved the ball half the distance to the end zone, which wasn’t far.
Amendola with a dirty hit in a spot where it’ll probably cost the Patriots like two yards.
— Bill Barnwell (@billbarnwell) January 16, 2016Seriously cheap shot by Amendola. Led with his helmet.
— Will Carroll (@injuryexpert) January 16, 2016Amendola did everything but build a carport on top of that Chiefs player.
— Kevin Clark (@KevinClarkWSJ) January 16, 2016That hit by Amendola was as dirty as anyone we have seen in the playoffs.
— Chris Rose (@ChrisRose) January 16, 2016What Amendola did was the most bush league thing I've seen in awhile.
— Nick Jacobs (@Jacobs71) January 16, 2016This is why the NFL needs the targeting rule. Amendola should be ejected and suspended
— Jake Yadrich (@JakeYadrich) January 16, 2016Where's the targeting penalty for Danny Amendola? pic.twitter.com/dGNvqORaPa
— McNeil (@Reflog_18) January 16, 2016Danny Amendola playing the part of Josh Donaldson.
— David Lesky (@DBLesky) January 16, 2016Danny Amendola would like a word https://t.co/G1Xaf4XbKu
— Nick (@VTBox) January 16, 2016That was one of the cheapest hits I've seen by Amendola.. He's a true patriot I guess.. #cheaters #jerks
— Eli Byrge (@Ebyrge22) January 16, 2016Amendola should be suspended 3 games for that hit.
— The Notorious C.E.D. (@Driquo) January 16, 2016@AndyGlockner @bleibforth If that were Fleming hitting Amendola during a pass play, I'd wager Fleming is ejected without a discussion.
