Royals fan bids farewell to Ben Zobrist, hopes he fails in Chicago
It was always going to be a long shot for the Royals to bring back second baseman/outfielder Ben Zobrist.
Suitors with deeper pockets were waiting to snap up Zobrist following his stellar postseason play for the Royals. The Cubs reportedly have a deal with Zobrist, who is a free agent, on a four-year, $56 million deal.
So you can tip your hat to Zobrist and say thanks for the help in getting the Royals a World Series title.
But that’s not the sentiment from a Facebook user named Jack Dempsey on Tuesday.
He wrote many things including this: “I thank Ben Zobrist for his contributions this year but I do not wish him good luck in Chicago. In fact, I hope he falls flat on his face. You leave my team, you are not my friend. And I unfollowed is wife’s Facebook page.”
There were more posts. Here are screenshots of some of his comments:
It’s an interesting argument, and everyone is entitled to their opinion. But it seems odd coming from a Royals fan. For most, there was great sadness among many in hearing that Zobrist would leave:

— Jenna Haecker (@jennajokay) December 9, 2015Well damn. Open Twitter to find #zobrist as a trend and it's not because he's coming back to KC. Thanks for the trophy my man.
— Corey Dean Reeves (@CD_Reeves) December 9, 2015Zobrist is #ForeverRoyal A huge part of the World Series run! His walks and clutch doubles will be missed. #Royals
— Andrew Cain (@Andrewcl39) December 9, 2015Zobrist to @Cubs. Wow. Going to miss him with #Royals. He was fun to watch as a Royal. Good luck to him, @JuliannaZobrist and his family.
— Mark Van Baale (@markvanbaale) December 9, 2015Ben Zobrist it was a hell of a ride. Royals or not, I'll always cheer for you. #RealMVP
— Kevin Robles (@iSlayTweeets) December 9, 2015Tough to see Zobrist go. We only had him a little while but he was huge for the Royals this postseason.
— Jacob Floyd (@yesthatjacob) December 9, 2015I knew we probably couldn't sing Zobrist, but man I sure wanted us to #Royals #willbemissed
— Jeremy Eubanks (@JGEubanks) December 9, 2015How can zobrist name his kid after the Royals then go sign with the cubs?
— Joe Dinovo (@JoeDinovo) December 9, 2015Wishing Zobrist good luck in what is likely his last major deal of his career with the #Cubs. Thanks for helping the #Royals be World Champs
