Nebraska fans are grateful that Samaje Perine bumped Cornhuskers from record book
Here’s a twist that would make the old-timers cringe.
An Oklahoma player’s success made Nebraska fans happy.
Samaje Perine ran for 427 yards in the Sooners’ win over Kansas, breaking the one-week old record held by Wisconsin’s Melvin Gordon.
Of course, Gordon did it against Nebraska, so the Blackshirts are no longer in the record book for having the worst rush defense in a game.
And it came on the same day that Nebraska lost at home to Minnesota, as one person noted:
Thank you Samaje Perine. Nebraska did get a win today.
— Cody (@SmootDogg) November 22, 2014Good day for #Nebraska....giving up the all-time single game rushing record now belongs to Kansas. Samaje Perine of OU is over 408!
— Jeremy Gaebel (@jeremygaebel) November 22, 2014God bless you Samaje Perine, I didn't want Nebraska's name next to that record.
— Matt Burnell (@mdburnell) November 22, 2014The Nebraska defense should send Samaje Perine a thank card or something.
— Kendall Albin (@Kendall14Albin) November 22, 2014Samaje Perine is the best thing to happen to Nebraska today !
— Matt Novotny (@MENovotny) November 22, 2014Samaje Perine: my new favorite player from Oklahoma. Ever. #Huskers
— Burnpoetry (@Burnpoetry) November 22, 2014Thanks #Kansas! You got the #huskers off the Schnide. New single game rushing record now 427 yards by Oklahoma back Samaje Perine.
— Red State Joe (@joedisomma) November 22, 2014Some Wisconsin fans, meanwhile, took the news hard.
Samaje Perine, I'm really happy for you and I'ma let you finish but Melvin Gordon did it in THREE QUARTERS AND AGAINST NEBRASKA!
— Yia Yang (@kickstwo) November 22, 2014Melvin Gordon did it against Nebraska and didnt play the 4th quarter Samaje Perine did it against Kansas Put an asterisk next to that record
— Ryan Richson (@ryan_richson) November 22, 2014Great running by Samaje Perine with the record, but I highly doubt he would get anywhere near 400+ yards against Nebraska in the snow! #NCAA
— James Lewison (@lewisonj) November 22, 2014And finally, Barry Switzer weighed in:
Congrats to Samaje Perine for rushing 427 yards against Kansas, setting the new NCAA record. #coachescabana #Sooners
