An inspirational start to the college basketball season
The highlights on Sunday night will be dominated by the NFL, but the most inspirational moment came on a basketball court.
Lauren Hill scored a basket. Here’s why it’s a big deal.
Shortly after she agreed to play basketball for Mount St. Joseph, a Division III school in Cincinnati, Hill was diagnosed with an inoperable form of brain cancer. It is called Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG), and doctors say Hill has just months to live.
The Mount St. Joseph season starts Nov. 15, but the NCAA allowed the school to move its game against Miram to Sunday. Miram agreed, too.
Hill got the first basket of the college basketball season.
