Thanks to Serena Williams, U.S. Open women’s final sells out before men’s final

Tennis fans are eager to see history in the making.

Serena Williams enters next week’s U.S. Open with a chance to compete the first Grand Slam since Steffi Graf in 1988.

That likely explains why the Associated Press reported that tickets for the U.S. Open women’s final sold out before the men’s title match.

According to the AP, tournament officials think this is the first time that has happened, but they said they don’t have complete records.

Williams, for her part, apparently is not too worried about the tournament. In fact, she sang a song from “The Little Mermaid” during a karaoke night earlier this week:
