Eric Stonestreet’s latest role? He ‘portrays’ Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes in commercial
When it comes to the Chiefs, Emmy Award-winning actor Eric Stonestreet wears his heart on his sleeve.
Stonestreet, who grew up in Kansas City, Kansas, and attended K-State, has season tickets at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium for Chiefs games. In interviews, he loves talking about the team. And he has been spotted in the past in St. Joseph at Chiefs training camp.
So perhaps he was born to play his latest acting role: Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
For the past several years, Mahomes has appeared in online commercials for Coors Light, and made a point of noting that because he’s a professional athlete, he can’t endorse a beer company. Coors Light previously has found several clever ways around that, including the Coors Light bear. This year it asked Stonestreet to help.
“Some years ago, I entered into an agreement with Coors Light,” Mahomes says at the start of the spot. “However, due to certain rules, I am not contractually permitted to appear in any commercials that promote alcoholic beverages. So instead, I found the perfect actor for the job.”
Stonestreet, who is one of the “Big Slick” co-hosts, then appears dressed like Mahomes, and he talks about throwing long touchdowns and having a cold brew. It’s a fun spot.
