This is a story about meat and it raises a whole bunch of intriguing questions that hopefully get answered one day.

For the most part, Argentina’s World Cup team has kept a low profile in Kansas City, where it has made its base camp. However, we have seen multiple videos of the team grilling meat, which undoubtedly makes them honorary Kansas Citians.

Chiqui Tapia, the president of the Argentine Football Association, shared a video from the team barbecue held last Thursday. He wrote on X: “Third barbecue with the gang in Kansas City 🔥😎”

Tell me this doesn’t look delicious.

And in perhaps the most KC thing you’d see from Team Argentina, they kept a barbecue going earlier this month despite tornado sirens sounding.

When Argentina picked Kansas City for its base camp, the defending World Cup champions chose to train at Sporting KC’s Compass Minerals National Performance Center and reside at the Origin Hotel.

The team brought more than its training equipment, boots and kits. Argentina shipped more than a thousand pounds of meat for its stay in Kansas City. That’s according to Potencia Argentina, which said did it for the players’ well-being.

“The decision is part of a strategy the national team has been pursuing for years, which considers nutrition a key factor in athletic performance,” Potencia Argentina reported. “The goal is to avoid abrupt changes in the players’ diets during competitions of maximum physical and mental exertion.”

They brought ribeye steak, roast beef, short ribs, narrow steak, rump roast, flank steak, tenderloin, skirt steak, matambre and rump tail, that story said.

“The logistics behind the operation required months of planning and compliance with strict health and customs requirements to allow the products to enter U.S. territory,” the Potencia Argentina story said.

There are so many questions, such as did the meat fly on the same plane as the team? Where was it all stored? How many freezers did the team require? And didn’t they realize Kansas City is known for having a love of meat from steaks to barbecue”

The meat delivery to KC was nothing compared with four years ago. The Potencia story says Argentina shipped 2 1/2 tons of meat to Qatar for the 2022 World Cup, and the well-fed team won the championship.
