For Pete's Sake

Take a look inside Team Argentina’s World Cup hotel, training center in KC

Argentina’s first 2026 FIFA World Cup match is not for another two weeks, but the team arrived in Kansas City on Sunday to begin training in defense of its title.

And Lionel Messi and his teammates got an unexpected welcome to Kansas City moment on Monday morning. Tornado sirens sounded at roughly 2 a.m.

That’s a relatable moment for all in the Kansas City area, right?

Argentina is staying at the Origin Hotel at the Berkley Riverfront and will train at Sporting Kansas City’s Compass Minerals National Performance Center.

Fans greeted Team Argentina on Sunday afternoon outside the Origin Hotel.

There is a fence up around the hotel and a police presence, which is to be expected for such a high-profile team that includes one of the world’s best-known athletes in Messi.

Chiqui Tapia, who is president of the Argentine Football Association, shared a video of how the hotel transformed into the team’s home away from home for the next six weeks or so. Sporting KC’s training center also has a decidedly Argentinian look now.

“The home of the National Team is ready and this is how it looks awaiting the arrival of the delegation!” Tapia wrote on X.

“In every detail, in every corner ... Argentine spirit on full blast at the Origin Hotel Kansas City, where the Albiceleste will stay during the World Cup.

“Great job. LET’S GO ARGENTINA! 💪🏻💪🏻”

Argentina television also showed scenes inside the KC hotel. This is from Telefe:

Messi will be staying in Room 202. Here is a closer look at the players’ rooms and few will be for just one person.
