The Chiefs are doing things a little different with their offseason workouts this year.

Most NFL teams have three multiday practice sessions during Organized Team Activities (OTAs) before ending offseason workouts with a mandatory minicamp.

That’s how it has usually been for the Chiefs since Andy Reid became head coach. But there will be just two sessions (May 26-28 and June 1-3) before the Chiefs’ mandatory minicamp, which is June 9-11.

Reid said the NFL last year allowed teams to have OTAs end a week later. That was fine in 2025, but the Chiefs know what’s coming this June: the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

“Our point here is that we’ve got a couple soccer matches going on here, and it’s going to be a bit chaotic here with a number of people that are going to be involved with, which is great,” Reid said last month. “I mean, it’s a great thing for the city. Not so great coming out of our parking lot, though.

“So I figure we’d just cut the chaos there a little bit in half, and get our guys out of the mix.”

The Chiefs’ practice facility is northwest of the Truman Sports Complex, but it’s located near Gate 5, which will be used during the World Cup.

A year ago, the Chiefs held their mandatory minicamp on June 19. The first two World Cup matches at Arrowhead Stadium are scheduled for June 16 and June 20.
