Something out of the ordinary happened Tuesday night at Rate Field.

White Sox left fielder Sam Antonacci hit a ground ball to open the bottom of the first inning, and it took a nice hop to Royals shortstop Bobby Witt Jr.

But Witt’s throw pulled first baseman Vinnie Pasquantino off the bag and Antonacci reached on an error. It appeared the throw just got away from Witt.

Entering Tuesday’s game, Witt had 150 fielding chances (91 assists and 59 putouts) without a miscue. He was also part of 24 double plays, the most in Major League Baseball.

Witt had not committed a fielding error since Aug. 23, 2025, a streak of 70 games. That error by Witt means Adalberto Mondesi maintains his record for the longest streak of errorless games by a shortstop in Royals history.

Mondesi went 76 games from Aug. 2, 2020 to April 26, 2022.

Fortunately for the Royals, Antonacci didn’t score in the inning. And Witt opened the scoring Tuesday when he clubbed a solo homer as part of his two-hit night.
