Chiefs coach Andy Reid coined one of my favorite words: Forkturian.

Reid mentioned that term during a 2020 event for the Latter-day Saints of Greater Kansas City. He said it while talking about all the great eating options in Kansas City.

“I would slight somebody if I mentioned all the places I like (to eat),” he said. “If you’re a forkturian, this is a good place to live because there are a lot of great food places. Listen, I get asked by all my buddies that don’t live in Kansas City: ‘What’s your favorite barbecue place?’ And my answer is I haven’t found one that I don’t like. They’re all phenomenal.”

Reid doesn’t only like to eat, he’s also happy to prepare a meal. For instance, he has a famous mac-and-cheese recipe.

And he apparently is also good behind the grill, something fans will get to see for themselves at the “Brats n’ Burgers with Coach Reid” fundraiser on May 30 at the Harris-Kearney House in Westport.

This is from the event’s webpage: “Enjoy great food, a lively atmosphere with a band, and the chance to see Coach Reid working the grill up close — all while supporting renovations of this 1855 landmark. With only 150 tickets available (including just 20 exclusive VIP spots), this event will sell out fast. Please note: no autographs will be given at the event. Rain or shine, this is your chance to be part of a memorable Kansas City experience!”

You can get tickets at westporthistoricalkc.org, and they were available as of Tuesday morning.

The National Parks Service noted this about the Harris-Kearney House Museum: “Santa Fe trader John Harris built the Harris House in 1855. The home is the oldest 2-story brick house in Kansas City.”

In a video, Reid and his wife, Tammy, talked about the event and their visit to the house.

“I went up there not knowing one thing about it,” Andy Reid said. “I came out knowing about the whole area, about the house. It was so cool. And the history there is phenomenal. I’m a history buff. I love that, and nothing better.”

Reid added that he will be grilling brats and burgers for the fundraiser.
