Top NFL Draft tight end prospect recounts meeting with Chiefs’ Travis Kelce
In the newest mock draft from The Star’s Pete Sweeney and Blair Kerkhoff, the Chiefs make a trade in the first round and land the top tight end prospect, Oregon’s Kenyon Sadiq.
Sadiq, who is 6-foot-3 and 241 pounds, could be a long-term replacement for the Chiefs when Travis Kelce decides to retire. But Kelce isn’t ready to step away just yet. He announced earlier this year that he’d be returning for a 14th season with the Chiefs.
And, perhaps not so coincidentally, Kelce signed his contract at the Chiefs facility when Sadiq came for a visit. Bri Amaranthus, an Oregon Ducks reporter for Sports Illustrated, talked with Sadiq about that meeting.
“He just came down the hallway from signing his contract,” Sadiq said. “He’s just a super cool guy, especially everything that everyone has told me about him. He’s a super down-to-earth person, he’s not going to try to ego you by any means or anything like that. I think that’s pretty rare, especially being the celebrity or caliber that he’s at. So it was really cool. He’s a cool guy.”
Sadiq turned heads at the NFL Combine when he set a record for the fastest 40-yard time recorded by a tight end (4.39 seconds). He had a big day, as the NFL noted.
Sadiq caught 51 passes for 560 yards and eight touchdowns last season with the Ducks.
