The 100th and final pitch thrown by White Sox starter Anthony Kay on Thursday night hit Royals right fielder Jac Caglianone.

As he walked to first base, Caglianone looked at Kay. Did he stare him down? Well, that depends on your point of view.

One White Sox fan wrote on X: “Jac Caglianone staring down Anthony Kay in a one run game with a man on, let’s have some shame.”

Another wrote: “Yes, Jac Caglianone, Anthony Kay was trying to hit you with a runner on in a 3-1 count on his 100th pitch.”

Did Caglianone stare down Kay? Here is a short clip of the play that admittedly only shows part of Caglianone’s reaction.

Kay didn’t like Caglianone’s response. Scott Merkin, who covers the White Sox for MLB.com, shared Kay’s postgame comment about it.

Those guys like to chirp a little bit it seems like,” Kay said. “I don’t think we are going to take that anymore. We are going to go right at them.”

Chicago won 2-0 and got their first victory at Kauffman Stadium since Sept. 6, 2023. The Royals feasted on the White Sox the previous two seasons, winning 22 of 26 games between the teams. The last time the White Sox won a season series with the Royals was in the COVID-shortened 2020 season.

Perhaps the White Sox are simply tired of the Royals.

Here is a longer look at Caglianone’s reaction to being hit.
