Chiefs’ Andy Reid to take part in tribute to mark United States’ 250th anniversary

Philadelphia is the birthplace of the United States as Thomas Jefferson, with the help of others, wrote the Declaration of Independence in the city in 1776, and the Founding Fathers signed it there.

Benjamin Franklin, John Adams, Samuel Adams, Robert Morris, John Hancock and Jefferson were all inside the Pennsylvania State House (now known as Independence Hall) and were among those who signed the Declaration of Independence.

Before becoming the Chiefs’ head coach, Andy Reid coached the Philadelphia Eagles (1999 to 2012), and he was well aware of the historical significance of the city.

This summer, we’ll all celebrate the 250th anniversary of the United States, and Reid will take part in a special presentation.

The Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra at Temple Square will mark the occasion on July 5 with a special broadcast of “Music and the Spoken Word,” and Reid will be the guest narrator for the program.

“I spent more than a decade just down the road from Independence Hall, where our Founding Fathers put pen to paper on the Declaration of Independence,” Reid said in a news release. “They were the ultimate team — facing adversity, staying the course and building something that has endured for 250 years. I’m honored to join The Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square to celebrate the birth of our nation in a place that reflects the same spirit of unity and faith.”

Among the options for listening to the program, which will be in Salt Lake City, is the Tabernacle Choir’s YouTube channel.
