For Pete's Sake

Many Kansas basketball fans had the same reaction to Bill Self’s return

Kansas men’s basketball fans couldn’t help but notice the timing of coach Bill Self’s announcement Wednesday that he was returning to coach the Jayhawks.

April Fools’ Day.

But the real joke came last week following KU’s elimination from the NCAA Tournament. That’s when false rumors started about Self making an imminent retirement announcement.

It took a report from The Star’s Gary Bedore, in which Self said the rumor was “bad info,” to quiet that talk.

Following Self’s announcement, many KU fans had the same reaction (after joy): Get top prospect Tyran Stokes to commit to KU.

Here’s a bit of what was said on X and Reddit:

“He saw (Stokes) play defense last night and decided to roll with it again,” a fan wrote on Reddit.

Another shared this: “All eyes turn to Tyran Stokes. Let’s get Bill his third ring.”

“Let’s go,” a fan wrote on Reddit. “Get Stokes and this team will have major talent to build around.”
