K-State women’s coach calls out Big 12 over tournament court double standard

Big 12 commissioner Brett Yormark had to expect there would be a lot of talk about the new court being used at the conference tournaments.

But Yormark probably wasn’t expecting fans to rail about the ugly design or coach Bill Self to express his concern about it being slippery or for a player to blame the court for causing a migraine.

The last of those came Tuesday night after the Wildcats lost 105-91 to BYU as the men’s tournament opened at T-Mobile Center.

During the opening games, statistics were displayed on the court and there were other cool graphics on the LED floor. It was quite a difference from the women’s tournament.

And that didn’t sit well with Wildcats women’s basketball coach Jeff Mittie, who called out the Big 12 for what he saw as a double standard.

“Just left the men’s Big 12 Conference tournament game,” Mittie wrote on X. “There were many graphics done on the court that were not done for our tournament. The Big 12 should do better for our Women’s basketball players!! I didn’t see all the games if I’m wrong let me know!”

Mittie wasn’t alone. Others noticed the difference how the court was being used during the men’s tournament, compared with the women’s. Here is a snapshot of what was being said.
