The NFL Combine begins this week and Chiefs coach Andy Reid usually attends the annual evaluation of college players in Indianapolis.
But not so this year.
During a Zoom call with reporters on Friday, Reid was asked why he wouldn’t be at the Combine by my former Kansas City Star colleague Herbie Teope.
“I couldn’t take you guys any more than this right here,” Reid quipped. “I had a little nice knee procedure done, so I’m on IR for about a second here, not long though.”
This won’t be the first time Reid, who turns 68 next month, will miss the Combine because of work done on a knee. In 2016, Reid had knee replacement surgery and didn’t make the trip to Indianapolis.
“It’s kind of a freak thing — it had been bothering me since training camp, swelling up a little bit,” Reid told the late Terez A. Paylor in 2016. “They were working on it with antibiotics, so I kind of knew, once we got towards the end of the season, that yeah, we were going to have to go in and get it taken care of.”
The Combine will run from Thursday until Sunday.
