Here’s a look at ‘state of the art’ court to be used at Big 12 tournaments in KC
The Big 12 Conference made a slight emendation on Tuesday.
That was the day commissioner Brett Yormark said the Big 12 was expected to begin to announce changes coming to the conference tournament in Kansas City.
But the Big 12 said on X that Yormark “got excited & spoke too soon.” The announcement would be coming Wednesday.
And we did learn what change is coming to T-Mobile Center. A new interactive LED video sports floor will be used at the 2026 Big 12 men’s and women’s basketball tournaments.
It “will mark the first time ASB GlassFloor’s LED court technology will be used for official competition in the United States, representing a significant milestone in the modernization of college athletics,” the Big 12 said in a news release.
The Big 12 shared a look at the court on YouTube.
What fans can expect
The Big 12 said fans at the T-Mobile Center can expect to see the following:
- Unique court designs
- Shot charts
- Interactive games for fans during timeouts
- Animations following big moments in a game
“Our goal at the Big 12 is simple: keep raising the bar,” Yormark said in the news release. “Elevating our league’s profile and adding real value to our programs requires a willingness to push boundaries. Last year, the introduction of the XII pattern on our tournament court did exactly that, and this year we’re taking the next step with ASB GlassFloor. This technology represents the future and bringing it to our basketball tournaments reinforces our commitment to innovation, positioning the Big 12 as a different league and national leader in elevating the game.”
The Big 12 women’s tournament will start March 4 and end on either March 8 or 9. The men’s tourney is March 10-14.
More “enhancements” for the tournaments will be announced in the coming weeks, the conference said.
