For Pete's Sake

As 2016 trend goes viral, here are 9 photos of Chiefs’ Travis Kelce from that year

The latest trend on social media is a throwback.

People and sports teams have been sharing photos from 2016 as the idea has gone viral.

People magazine wrote this about the trend: “Almost as soon as the clock struck midnight on Jan. 1, 2026, users on social media started posting content, touting 2026 as the ‘new 2016’ and sharing throwback snaps of themselves from the year or videos of themselves using Instagram’s iconic Rio de Janeiro filter (which was a staple facet of Instagram posting at the time).”

The Chiefs have joined in the trend, and I wondered what kind of photos of tight end Travis Kelce were in our library.

It was a big year for the Big Yeti*, as he made a second Pro Bowl, was named to the All-Pro team for the first time, had his first 1,000-yard receiving season and made his first big mark culturally.

*That’s the nickname Kelce’s brother, Jason, has given him

That’s the year “Catching Kelce” aired, and, well, that’s something he’d rather forget.

On the New Heights podcast, Kelce said he’d rather get “Brazilian waxed” than watch “Catching Kelce” on a loop, per Rolling Stone.

There were a plethora of Kelce photos from 2016 in our library and I pulled out nine of them.
