Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and his wife, Brittany, shared a family photo to mark the end of 2025 and the start of 2026.

It wasn’t a great year for Patrick Mahomes, at least professionally.

It started off well, with the Chiefs advancing to the Super Bowl for the fifth time in six seasons. But the Chiefs were thumped by the Eagles in Super Bowl LIX.

The Chiefs’ 2025 season went off the rails and Mahomes suffered a knee injury that required surgery.

That procedure to repair the anterior cruciate ligament and the lateral collateral ligament in the quarterback’s left knee took place on Dec. 15.

There haven’t been many updates on Mahomes’ progress following surgery, but we got a look at the huge brace he’s wearing on that left knee.

It came in that family photo shared by Patrick and Brittany Mahomes on Instagram. Here’s a look.

Mahomes might not be in the brace for long.

The website ACL Doctor shared the reason for wearing a brace following such surgery.

“During the first few weeks after ACL surgery, there is an increased risk of a patient falling due to muscle weakness so during this time a postoperative brace is utilized,” Dr. Richard Cunningham wrote. “Unless there is associated meniscus repair surgery, the postop brace can usually be discontinued by 2-3 weeks after ACL surgery. Patients report a sense of protection when using a brace. It can also bring relief from some of the post-surgical discomfort.”

Mahomes reportedly didn’t have his meniscus repaired, so that’s why the brace could soon be gone.
