  • Tony Jefferson was ejected at Arrowhead after an illegal hit and obscene gesture.
  • Weeks later Jefferson publicly cheered for the Chiefs during Thursday night game.
  • Jefferson backed a Chiefs upset to improve the Chargers’ odds in the AFC West.

The last time Chargers safety Tony Jefferson was at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium, he was told to leave the game by the officials.

Jefferson had knocked Chiefs receiver Rashee Rice out of KC’s game against the Chargers with a big (and legal) hit. Rice’s season ultimately ended because of that collision. A little later in that same game, Jefferson delivered another big hit, this time to Chiefs receiver Tyquan Thornton.

That blow, however, was not legal. Jefferson was penalized and ejected. While leaving the field, he flipped off Chiefs fans.

Ah, but Jefferson unofficially joined Chiefs Kingdom on Thursday night.

Was this a Christmas Miracle? Nah, it was self-serving.

Jefferson and the Chargers entered Week 17 one game back of the Broncos in the AFC West standings. The Broncos and Chargers will meet in the regular-season finale, and it could be for the division title.

But Jefferson thought it would be cool if the Chiefs could pull off the upset on Thursday night.

“I know yall hate me . But let’s go chiefs !!!” Jefferson wrote on X (he included a laughing emoji).

Chiefs fans couldn’t be blamed for not welcoming Jefferson with open arms because of how he, uh, saluted them.
