Even when he’s hurt, Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is going full speed.

A little more than 24 hours after suffering a season-ending injury, Mahomes underwent surgery to repair two ligaments in his left knee. And after that procedure Monday, Mahomes began the rehabilitation process. He also helped quarterback Gardner Minshew began preparing for the Chiefs’ game Sunday against the Titans.

“He’s been great man,” Minshew said of Mahomes. “As soon as he’s been figuring everything out, he’s been texting the QB room, very positive, trying to get the guys fired up, getting everybody ready to go.

“That dude still wants us to win. That’s what he cares about. It’s awesome that we have a leader like that.”

Chiefs coach Andy Reid said he expects Mahomes to return to the team facility on Friday. Rehab will be his focus, but Mahomes no doubt will chat with Minshew about the Titans.

Minshew, who is in his first season with the Chiefs, said he has tried to not bother Mahomes too much.

“He’s awesome, man,” Minshew said. “He’s got a lot going on, so I want to make sure he’s good, having gone through surgery. I think he’ll be back around towards the end of the week, and we’ll all be ready to go.”
