This ‘Christmas Vacation’-Super Bowl LIV mashup must feel poignant for Chiefs fans

When the Chiefs thumped the Commanders 28-7 on “Monday Night Football” a few days before Halloween, no one would have guessed they’d be eliminated from playoff contention 10 days before Christmas.

The Chiefs’ record following the win over Washington was 5-3, and they had completed a three-game stretch in which they outscored the Lions, Raiders and Commanders 89-24.

Since then, the Chiefs have won just once, and that took a big fourth-quarter rally to beat the Colts at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium.

The Chiefs were eliminated from the postseason race on Sunday and quarterback Patrick Mahomes suffered a season-ending knee injury. The Chiefs’ dynasty is not necessarily over, but this is going to be a Blue Christmas for fans.

That’s why this “Christmas Vacation” mashup with Super Bowl LIV highlights feels needed this holiday season. It’s the scene where Clark Griswold (Chevy Chase) is accidentally locked in the attic and gets misty-eyed while watching old home videos.

But this video, which YouTube user Brewha26 uploaded on Dec. 11, 2020, has highlights from the Chiefs’ 31-20 victory over the 49ers in Super Bowl LIV.
