NBC cameras caught quarterback Patrick Mahomes putting a heating pad on his left knee while on the Chiefs’ sideline during Sunday night’s game against Houston.

Mahomes had been on the injury report leading up to the “Sunday Night Football” contest at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium, but he practiced all week.

During his weekly interview on 96.5 The Fan, Mahomes was asked Wednesday about his knee and how he felt physically.

“I feel like I’ve played a football season,” Mahomes told Carrington Harrison. “You know, everybody’s kind of banged up and has his things here and there, but I’ll be ready to go, and I’m excited to get back out there on the football field and try to do whatever I can to get back in a better mindset of winning.”

Mahomes, who turned 30 in September, isn’t the only quarterback who’s not 100% heading into Sunday’s game in KC.

Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert played Monday night with a broken left hand, and he’s ready to face the Chiefs. Mahomes was asked about the difficulty of playing while injured.

“That’s what makes football so special is that it’s a long season,” Mahomes said. “It’s a lot of games, a lot of hits, and you have to be tough and go out there and perform when you don’t feel the best. And I have a lot of admiration for how Justin always battles through injury and goes out there and plays his best football.

“And that’s what it’s all about, especially the quarterback position, is if the guys are going to sacrifice their bodies to block for you and do that different type of stuff, you have to be able to sacrifice your body to give it all on the football field as well. And so it’s two teams that are fighting to try to go out there and win a football game. And I’m sure it’ll be a great battle.”
