Chiefs players have serious opinions on when to put up Christmas decorations

Although there was a dip in temperatures earlier this month, we’ve enjoyed been pretty mild weather for mid-November in Kansas City.

Perhaps that explains why quite a few homes in the area already have holiday decorations up, despite Christmas being more than five weeks away. For some, that’s been a jarring sight because of how warm it’s been, and we’re not even to Thanksgiving yet.

But there are folks who will get out the Christmas tree as soon as Halloween ends and string up some lights on the house.

But multiple Chiefs stars believe that’s way too early. The team’s social-media group asked the players if Christmas decorations should go up after Thanksgiving or earlier.

The players who thought you start decorating after Thanksgiving included tight end Travis Kelce, quarterback Patrick Mahomes and center Creed Humphrey.

But wide receivers Rashee Rice and JuJu Smith-Schuster said Nov. 1. Smith-Schuster said he’s already got a Christmas tree up at his place.

Defensive lineman Chris Jones, however, advocated for a different time.

“We’ve got to be very transparent with this, because some people put their lights up right before Thanksgiving, which I think is crazy,” Jones said. “Stop putting the lights up so early. I think the appropriate time to put the lights up, I think the first week of December. That’s fair, right?”

Here is the video of players talking about the topic, and if you have thoughts on the question, leave a comment.
