Khalen Saunders indicates he won’t be returning to the Chiefs after all
It seemed like a no-brainer for the Chiefs.
Former Chiefs defensive lineman Khalen Saunders was released by the Jacksonville Jaguars last week, and he cleared waivers, meaning he could sign with any team.
Chiefs Kingdom tried willing Saunders’ return to the Chiefs, the team that drafted him and where he won two Super Bowl rings. Players in the Chiefs’ locker room also were ready to welcome back Saunders.
Saunders, who signed a three-year contract with the Saints in 2023 and was traded to Jacksonville earlier this year, got fans excited with his message on X at 1:17 a.m. Monday.
“Boy i forgot how cold air felt omg,” Saunders wrote.
Why yes, it was chilly in Kansas City, especially compared to Florida’s temperatures. Was Saunders actually in KC? Perhaps, because less than 10 hours later Saunders penned a message on X that deflated Chiefs fans.
“Sorry yall, i tried,” Saunders wrote. “If only the fans were the front office. “Maybe one day tho who knows.”
Chiefs fans expressed their disappointment at what seems to be confirmation from Saunders that he won’t be back in Kansas City. He appeared in 38 regular-season games from 2019-2022, collection 4 1/2 sacks and making 81 tackles, and there was hope he could help the Chiefs’ pass rush.
