When Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas was a guest on 96.5 The Fan last month, he was asked about his dining experience at the 1587 Prime steakhouse.

“Outstanding dishes, the cuts of meat are particularly fantastic,” Lucas said. “It is a price point, though. So if you’re taking your lady, your friend, whatever you know, make sure you already paid your bills for the month.

“But it’s a very, very good experience. The ambiance is wonderful. I look forward to making it back. And I told my wife, we’re gonna make it back in about a year.”

The mayor’s comment about the cost came weeks after a Business Insider story about 1587 Prime, which was founded by Chiefs stars Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce, noted a group of four diners had spent $800.

That led to a surge in talk on social media about whether the restaurant was too expensive.

Shortly after plans for the restaurant were announced in 2024, Mahomes said he and Kelce had talked about pricing.

“We don’t want to make it too upscale, too high price that not everybody can go, so we’re gonna make it a place where hopefully Kansas City can call it home and that everybody can be there and really enjoy it,” Mahomes said at the time
